In the darkness…

He reveals deep and secret things; He knows what is in the darkness, and light dwells with Him.  – Daniel 2:22

I can’t tell you how many times I read this verse yesterday…over and over again.  I don’t know why I do that, but it’s just how I study the Word.  Often a verse or passage will catch my attention as I’m reading and I won’t always know why.  With this verse, for instance, I highlighted it and continued on with my reading.   However, I kept coming back to it and knew there was something there.

He reveals deep and secret things…It is amazing to me that God would even speak to me, let alone reveal deep and secret things.  I  can not even comprehend that I have that sort of intimacy with Him, yet I do.  There is something so wonderful about having that connection with God…to be reading the Bible or praying and feel as if He has just revealed something marvelous and mysterious to you.  That has been, by far, the most exciting thing that has happened as I have been on this journey to read through the Bible.  To know that God has just revealed something that I had never noticed before.

The amazing thing is that this is how God has always been with His children.  It is His desire that we would all seek to have such a close and intimate walk with Him.  Job stated that God reveals mysteries from the darkness (Job 12:22.)  Paul refers many times to the mystery that was made known to him.  Then, in Ephesians 5:32, he tells us This mystery is profound, but I am talking about Christ and the Church.  God whispers in our ears…deep and secret things about Christ, His Church and His will…and it is profound.  I, for one, don’t want to miss a single word…Speak, Lord, for Your servant is listening (1 Samuel 3:10.)

He knows what is in the darkness…The second I read that line, I knew it was making it into a blog post and soon.  Seriously, I repeated those words in my head all the way home from work yesterday.  He knows what is in the darkness…He knows what is in the darkness.  In my mind, darkness represents things that are fearful or unknown.  But, nothing is fearful or unknown to God.  He knows what is in the darkness because even the darkness is not dark to You [God] (Psalm 139:12.)  Because He knows what is in the darkness, we can trust Him…we can follow Him down a dimly lit path…because He knows, we don’t have to know.

I also thought about things we hide…secrets that we don’t share with other people…areas of shame, perhaps, that we would never want known.  He knows what is in the darkness.  That is why we are able to have that close, intimate relationship with God where He reveals deep and secret things to us…because He already knows what is in our darkness.  Nothing about us is hidden from Him.  There is no concern about…If He knew, would He still pursue me…He does know and He does still pursue us.  All of the things that we think are so dark and unloveable…even the darkness is not dark to You [God] (Psalm 139:12.)

  1. I am new enough to this type of blog-surfing to still be a bit confused about the etiquette. I have found your blog through a comment you left on mine. (Of course, I didn’t know said comment was there for quite a while, and I am still surprised to actually have a comment.)

    All that to say…

I am really enjoying your blog, especially the one a few posts back entitled “Dehydrated”. That is a word picture that is going to stick with me a while. :o)
