With Love

Let all that you do be done with love. – 1 Corinthians 16:14

This is something I struggle with…doing things with love.  I tend to do things because I have to…or feel obligated…or just want to keep the peace.  So, I do things…but not always with love.  More like with resentment, bitterness, anger and just a little touch of martyrdom. Okay, so it’s not that extreme…but, my attitude is not always as it should be.

I thought of this as I was rocking Ella just a couple of nights ago.  It was 9:00 p.m. and well past her bedtime.  But, she had a cough that kept waking her up.  I must admit, at first, I was annoyed.  This was my down time…my sit on my behind and watch non-cartoon television time.  Yet, as I rocked her and kissed her chubby cheeks…I knew that I needed to take it all in because it would not last forever.  I needed to rock that baby with love…no matter what time it was…no matter how tired I was…

I love that God is never random.  He does not say…oh, by the way, do all things with love…and not tell you what that looks like.  Just a few short chapters before, Paul goes to great lengths to explain love to us.
Love is patient; love is kind.  Love does not envy; is not boastful; is not conceited; does not act improperly; is not selfish; is not provoked; does not keep a record of wrongs; finds no joy in unrighteousness, but rejoices in the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.  Love never ends… – 1 Corinthians 13:4-8

  1. I love Emily’s “I’m just sayin” comment below… and thank for this reminder. I, too, have been working on the attitude I have with the family — I could stand some improvement, and I have to say I’m sorry, too… :o)
